Brighton, UK – West Pier

I was a very happy visitor in Brighton, UK, in 2006!!! 😀 Oh my, I have no idea why, but this place was magical to me!!! Me & a few friends worked in Thistle Hotel over the December holidays… We had plenty of time to travel around & get to know Brighton & its immediate surroundings quite well!!! 🙂

I just loved the pebble beaches!! 🙂 South Africa is pretty well known for our white sandy beaches, so this was quite different from what I’m used to!!! I would go back to Brighton any time (& every time) that I have the chance!!! 😀

    I like traditional English seaside towns, they have character. That pier doesn’t look right, but a good photo. There is something magical about photographing water, I photographed 3 different lakes on Sunday!

      No, I don’t think we never ate there… My memory of the places that we ate is vague!! 😦 I’ve been trying to remember the name of an Australian bar/pub where we went a few times… but it doesn’t come to mind!!!

        That might have been Walkabout – just up from the seafront?
        Brighton’s my home town and I love it. When I was a child I used to visit the West Pier with my grandad (long time ago and giving my age away!) Happy Days – I’d love to see it rebuilt. I love the photo…

    Hi Xandre – I love Brighton! I’ve only been there once, in stormy weather, but liked the way the town was laid out – you have the pebble beach and Brighton Pier and the majestic hotels that sit above the beach. Then there is the area of the Pavilion. The Pavilion is gorgeous, not only on the outside, but even more strange and exquisite inside! Then there is the area west of the pier which seems to be made up of little coffee, gift and craft shops …! Sorry, I’m going on a bit. I did get some photographs but not many because of the weather. I did see the West Pier, which unfortunately burned down and its intricate skeletal structure is macabre but quite beautiful. I didn’t get any photos of it so it is really nice to see it in yours!

      Hi John!! We never went inside the Pavilion & my photos of the outside is all blurry 😦 – maybe I can “artify” one of them & post them in a forthcoming Travel Lane post!!! I just loved the little Lanes with the shops & restaurants…. soooooo cosy!!! 🙂

    I used to study in Brighton 🙂 Great for a visit, definitely, but living there is a completely different story. That’s a very good picture of the west pier. And I know, I’ve seen more than I could possibly count!

      Thank you sooooo much for the kind compliment!!!! 😀 Why is living there a different story?? You will have a more objective opinion seeing that you studied there (I was there for only 5/6 weeks!) 🙂

      I would have loved to see it before it burned down!!! Is the story true that it was arson?? I heard that when the Eastern Pier was erected that it was in serious competition with each other (not the good kind of competition)… & that it burned down very “conveniently”?? 🙂 **
