It is really beautiful. You could spend hours looking at the detail and gargoyles from the outside before even going in. The inside is also quite breathtaking. For all those that haven’t been, go for it.

Beautiful Picture! It is interesting how the carvings depict the moment when God judges where the souls of the dead should go. To his left into heaven, or to his right into hell! The Medieval people seem to not have seen their God as a forgiving figure!

when people can do bad things and get away with it, religion comforts you, telling you that God will take your revenge for you. God is only forgiving in societies where justice is seen to be done on earth. When it’s not, people WANT their God to be vengeful. Religion always serves a purpose for the society in which it lives.

Loved the ‘feel’ of it. The architecture was beautiful, the art stunning, the stained glass windows majestic. But you can just feel the history of the place, the shadows beckon to you with secrets of the centuries. Can’t wait to visit again.

Notre Dame excites from any angle….from standing outside the facade , looking up at all the grandeur, from a seated position in a pew, even from a riverboat tour at dusk, there is no end to the spectacular views of this majestic example of architecture. 3MP camera eh? I started off with a compact Kodak Easyshare 3MP and for it’s time, it took some nice shots..until I dropped it in beach sand 😦 This is an amazing shot full of great detail! I had a close friend leave to Paris a few weeks back – I’m going to ask if they have any photos of this cathedral. Thanks for swinging by my little rant and giving it a like! Hi Xandre – I’ve been there and was really in awe, not only by the detail of both the inside and outside of Notre Dame but every sculpture we saw around the city! If I had to make a choice of my favourite sculpture work in Paris, then the panels on the Arc de Triomphe for me were just perfect; completely stunning! Love the photograph! Would like to go again!

I love the hauntingly beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. My favorite part is the climb up the tower for the incredible views of Paris with it’s streets fingering out through the city. The quirky gargoyles are fun to see on the climb to the top. And I have to mention the stunning stained glass throughout the cathedral, especially over the main alter. Whew, so much to love, and I love that you asked!!

I lived in Paris for years and often went there. You definitely captured the ambiance and myth about it. I love wandering in the alleys inside. Gigantic and peaceful. Beautiful picture.
I lived in Paris for 2 1/2 months, walked past Notre Dame innumerable times, and only went in once, briefly, and don’t remember it. 😦 What a pity. I did lots of other cool things, though…don’t think I totally squandered my time. …though the French Open was happening while I was there, and I didn’t go to that, either…….maybe I did squander it…… I’m going to go to sleep and try not to cry, now.

There is one statue in the same group with head in his hand, probably a martyr. I remember of visiting this beautiful Gothic building in 1995. This cathedral also play an important role in Victor Hugo’s the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
