Drive-in Theatre Style…

I don’t know how many of you guys still have a good ol’ classic drive-in theatre??🙂 When our friends from the Netherlands were here for a visit a few weeks back, we thought that it would be fun to go & watch a movie at the drive-in theatre (you know… in stead of watching a movie at home…)!!! We were super surprised that they have never done this… They thought that it only happens in the movies… (or only in america!!!!)😉

So, what was a regular idea for us, turned into something very unfamiliar (but enjoyable) to them!!! It was a great evening!!!🙂

Our Netherland friends: Johan & Marieke !!!

If you haven’t visited the drive-in recently…. You have no idea what you’re missing out on!!!😀 **

How fun! I’ve never been to a drive-in and there certainly aren’t any here in France. Plus the fact that we don’t have a car would make it a challenge. Looks like you had a great night.

I remember Drive in movies, I think there are a few left here, but not close to us. We used to go them where I grew up, it was the only way you got to see movies. Lots of fun, I do remember that.

On a warm evening we used to pile all our kids in the back of our station wagon and go to the drive in. That was back when the little sound box hung on the inside of the window and treated us to the tinny sound that came from them.

There is a drive in fairly close to us but now we plug into the sound on our radio. This time of year it’s not practical, too cold and rainy. Definitely a summer adventure.😉

Hahaha… I can only imagine the tin sound!!! Nowadays (as you can see), we set up “camp” outside the car… open the windows & doors wide… & let the radio’s sound blare out!!! Very enjoyable!!! When we are less people we also take a matrass with & watch it from the back of the truck!!!😀 **

We still have a few drive-ins near us, but because none of us in our family are late night people, we usually fall asleep after the first movie, so we don’t bother going often. It is a neat experience though!🙂

This brings back some wonderful memories for me too. I think just about all our drive-in movies places have closed now. At any rate, it’s been 3 decades+ since Ive been. I like how you’ve processed the shot of your friends with a retro look. Maybe you could do the same with some of the others ones for a bit of fun. Still, what a blast!

Sadly, that is a by-gone era in the States. Drive-ins were always great entertainment. I remember as a kid bringing from home our own soda pop, popcorn in a brown grocery sack, and a sitting blanket. Then as a teenager, packing friends in the trunk to get them in free. But wait, there were the few make-out date nights with the girlfriend (although I always kinda liked watching the movies instead). And the mischeive had driving the “humps” after the movie. Yes…as SL said, who could forget the tinny sound from the pole box hanging on the inside of the car window Great memories – make them yours before they leave y’all as they did in the U.S. Thanks for sharing.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing!!!! I really was under the impression that drive-ins are still a huge future in the American life!!!! I was obviously mistaken… ( I blame the movies!!!😉 ) **

Hi Xandre – Seen them in American movies but we have never had them in the UK – with the weather we have it would be out of action for most of the year!!! Would love to experience it though! Nice to read your other followers comments on their experiences at drive-ins!

    Cheers

What fun it has to read so many of the comments from memories to current from all around the world. Definitely a great conversation starter. Leave it to the “kids” to come up with all the really good ideas.😀
