A weekend of recovery…

Over the next two days we were catching up on rest/sleep and recovering from jet lag!!! … As we did not have a vehicle yet, we were limited to our immediate environment!!! – – – 82nd avenue – or Whyte avenue!!! – – – What a quaint and fun avenue!! We explored the beyonds as well… but found that this avenue had true character!!! 🙂

And of course we had to drink Starbucks… I know – totally overrated, but you can’t have access to a Starbucks and not drink one of their ridiculously overpriced (and not even that yummy) coffees!!! 😉

We still had a good amount of snow the next day… just a bit more for us to enjoy!!! 🙂

He-who-thinks-he’s-boss is convinced that Kelsey’s has the best ribs in the world… 😀 He reckons that he’ll fly to Canada just to have ribs at Kelsey’s!!! 😉

A Snowy view…

We had a HUGE lunch at one of PCL’s employees home!!! Oh my, what a feast!!! – – – I don’t know why I didn’t take any photos of it!!! – – – But it was fabulous for a Sunday!!! We had a great afternoon!!!

Serious jet-lagging!!! @04h00

We loved the fact that we could see the temperature without having to turn on the television!!! Across the street from the hotel (in view of our room), we had a thermometer showing the temperature… The coldest (that we saw) was -4 degrees Celsius!!! – – – For us, that is very very very cold!!! – – – Minimum temperatures in winter in South Africa average about 7 degrees Celsius!!! So, bbbbrrrrrr!!!! 😉 **

But you are coming back aren’t you?? When you do, try Tim Hortons (affectionately referred to as Timmies by Canadians). For years Timmies was only in Canada but now you can find a few in the northern US. Timmies is HUGE here! 🙂

I was going to say this reminds me of back home!!! It can get as cold as -40C and at those temperatures, your bones hurt… I don’t miss those days one bit 🙂

Ohhh…. CHARbucks. You would think the biggest coffee company in the world would know the difference between roasted and burned. The beans don’t even smell good. But it’s the atmosphere and the fact that they add so much sugar and flavor no one notices, or so they say. Lots of excellent local coffee roasters. Portland is know for its coffee, tea and micro brews. Plus excellent wines from the surrounding hills. 😀

Oh, agreed. But once you are where there are lots of Charbucks around, just go enjoy with enough cream and fattening delicious flavorings to make it all enjoyable.

We pass four of them on the way to work in a 3.5 mile stretch. They are on every corner. We make lattes at home, or go to Dutch Bros. 😀

Agreed! 😀 It is a must. There are at least four of them within walking distance of home. I still meet friends there. 😀

Wow it is going to be a massive change. Melbournians love their coffee and I’m afraid not many Starbucks have lasted here. Why would you pay for crap coffee, when a couple of doors up you can get fantastic coffee. It looks so beautiful there. Love the snow. Sounds like our countries are the same, we don’t get cold weather like others, in winter, overnight on a rare occasion we might get -1, but that is very rare.

I can’t believe your plane from Amsterdam landed in me hometown of Vancouver, only for you to “backtrack” east to Alberta! Also, I hope you tried out some Tim Horton’s coffee and donuts – it’s kinduva Canadian thing, too. I’m glad you got to experience some cold and some below-freezing temperatures, although at -4C and if there was sun, some might say that’d be downright “tropical-like” in the middle of winter. 🙂

Henry, I can’t tell you how long that flight was!!!! Excruciating!!! & we missed Timmies – only because our time there was sooooo short and packed with a tight schedule!!! (Not your average touristy travel itinerary – more business!!!) 🙂 **

But that’s my point – one should stop at Tim’s for coffee and donuts, *especially* if there are business meetings involved! 😉 And yeah, sounds like you both needed some immediate relaxation after that mammoth trip to Alberta.

You absolutely have to come back to Canada – and to Edmonton (my home town, and we missed meeting!) There are FANTASTIC independent coffee places here – local roasters – that I wold love to show you … of course “timmy’s” is a thoroughly Canadian institution … but the really good stuff is local and independent!
