This weekend was nothing extremely exciting… we worked out, watched rugby (or rather I was busy on my laptop while He-who-thinks-he’s-boss {HWTHB} watched rugby), went to HWTHB’s parents for a Sunday lunch… Nothing special happened…
What did make me weirdly happy was this wonderful Milk Tart…
Milk Tart is a true South African pudding… & IF you have visited me, you would know that (& you would know how delicious it is…) – BUT, none of you will know!!! 😉
It is almost like a normal tart, just with MUCH more milk!!!! & it is extreme deliciousness!!! Usually you would only sprinkle cinnamon over the entire tart surface – but I LOVED this creativity of sprinkling the South African flag on it… How appropriate!! 😀
I am going to bake these & sell them in Canada!!! 😉
It’s my favourite. We had a debate two weekends ago whether Milk Tart should be served cold, warmed or at room temperature. What do you think?
Hahaha!!! Interesting question Rory!!! Well, I like it warm… It is good cold… I am currently enjoying a piece at room temperature!!! 😀 But, I think just a tad below room temp tastes best!!! 😀 **
Lucky you 🙂 I like it warm as dessert but room temperature is fine served with tea and cold on a hot summers day is great too.
Yes… hot/cold/room temperature – 1. All other desserts – 0. 😉 **
I have no idea what this might taste like, but it looks amazing, and somewhat similar to pie, which I love to make, so it MUST be delicious! 🙂
Maybe you should put it on your bake list Abra – you really won’t be disappointed!!! Be sure to let me know what you think… 😉 **
They will be a top seller… I tried those at a South African deli here in San Diego (I owe a blog post to that visit, just too lazy to put it together!!)… anyway we tried the tarts and I wanted to eat my hand after….. and I’m not into sweets at all, so I can only imagine what a normal person would feel about them!! lol
If you haven’t tried them people… YOU ARE MISSING OUT 🙂
Hahaha… I’m also much more of a salt person!!!! 🙂 That’s what’s soooooo awesome about milk tart… it is sweet, but not overly sweet!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!! 🙂 **
That sounds like a plan.:) Maybe you could give some of us the recipe so we can try them. 🙂
Sounds wonderful.
I’ll buy one, I’ll buy one!!!! Looks yummmmmyyyyyy 🙂
Yum! Who made this, my girl? I know you couldn’t have, because you didn’t have electricity for most of the weekend… 😉
Spar!!! Yummy-yummy Spar melk tert!!! 😀 **
From the top it reminds me of a baked custard or even a bread pudding, but I’ll have to content myself with a trip to Canada next year to buy one from you. 😀 Unless of course you come for clam chowder and you can bake one at my house. 😉
Now that sounds like a top idea Shez!!!! I really like that!!! … 😀 **
This looks great! 🙂
Bjorn would like a piece of that delicious melktert (whilst he’s waiting for me to still make him one… :-))
